Week 8: May 18-22
Monday, May 18
Only 15 today. Sigh. When he focuses, he's so much faster. He was day dreaming...then fighting...then distracted...I had to start the clock twice because he stopped before he even started.
And apparently he thinks 5+3=18. But that was after 60 sec was up.
Ok, I told him NO to gorillas, but eventually let him choose Bison. He had about 5 different animals in mind and kept switching. We tried to do a "golden eagle" like the one on the flag of Mexico. When I finally let him try to find info on that (to prove a point of how hard it would be to find info), he believed me that he might want to choose a different animal. We were trying to get him to do camel LOL, but bison it is. He knows a lot about bison, but not everything. I also thought--if ok with you--we might focus a little on the history at the same time. Given we're reading Little House it seems to go with the territory, pun intended.
We started filling in the graphic organizer with the suggested websites. We also have a ton of animal books at home we'll use.
Tuesday, May 19
Ugh. We will KEEP at it. Time pressure.
We added more to the organizer
A socially distanced game after dinner with "Grumpy" (my dad). First time we've done this with him since March--and we usually see him 3X/week. :-(

We had to take it easy today. I just didn't have enough time to dig in with them. Meetings all day. I can't sustain this!!! :-( Anyway, we got most of it done...they just didn't do the reading in Epic. I will make sure they read plenty over the summer so I'm not super worried. We are all almost totally out of steam at this point. We are all cranky, bad behavior is off the charts, and we are basically all exhausted.

These are the math problems. I didn't have the time or energy to copy them into the notebook for both boys. Seb did well with these today. I know he probably didn't show his work the best way or do the word problems with all the steps that are encouraged, but he didn't fight and he actually understood and knew what to do. Victory in my mind.

Found this on the kitchen counter this morning...we're back to liking wrestling again.

Sebastian, I knew you'd enjoy the animal research! I'm so glad you choose to research the bison. We've never had anyone choose that before so I know I'll learn a lot from you! Great work this week!
