Week 1: March 30-April 3
Hi,
Honestly, I've been thinking of the easiest way to get you work. I will keep hard copies of notebooks, drawings, whatever is required. I'll take photos and post daily or weekly of their work and what they are doing. I will (once a week) upload a file that is the homework checklist with the things checked off (or comments about what we didn't do...if that's the case). Blogger works with my phone, meaning I can upload photos directly from it. So it's easier than emailing you pictures. Will be kind of fun for me to look back on after as well. And, sorry, but since I'm doing all the work anyway, you may get extra stuff in it (pics of other stuff we're doing). Much easier for me to upload all the photos of the day than to pick and choose. I guess it's a way to stay connected to the boys as well!
Sorry for the terrible photos. I know you won't be able to read it all. I also have not been picky in the writing yet...this week, I'm just trying to figure out how to make it all work with my job, to be honest.

This is Seb "dancing" to Jump in the Line by H. Belafonte. 🤷
We found a bird's nest in our bushes on our walk. It had lichen in it.

Seb's independent art project. |
Papa grilled Seb on his Latin American countries and capitals. Seb knows almost all of them.
Another independent art project...a sword. He also made a "Maui hook" which kept breaking. LOL
They were very loud fighting while I was on a work zoom call!
Karate tonight.
Also, for the kindness journal (I will try to get him to write about it): He recorded a video message and drew the Dominican flag (She's Dominican) for one of my students that he loves. She wrote back to me tonight and said Seb's message was exactly what she needed. His face lit up. We'll send her another video soon... ;-)

This is exhausting...I know you're facing the same pressures. I feel NOT proud of the work they are producing...Wish I had the time and energy to help them do better.
Morning walk before the rain hit. Walking catch--our fave!

Carlos and I collaborated to make huevos rancheros and the boys wouldn't touch it. They won't eat ANYTHING we make these days. They are living off sandwiches (at least while supplies last...) and we don't have the time or energy to fight it...

This kid needs a LOT of help with math...as you know. And I"m NOT the one to give that help . We have the same academic strengths...which is not helpful. |

Silent Reading BINGO |
They focused on art today and watched random YouTube videos...turns out they learned more and did more today than ever before. Seb's drawings have never been this "realistic"... I'm super proud of him.
Morning announcements--those videos from Mr. Higgins are amazing!
Today the boys saw Papa doing some electrical work...they didn't care about it that much, but I like when they see him fixing things. They often help him...didn't want them helping with electrical, though! At least not yet! The light switch in my "office" (aka: the kitchen) broke and the light wouldn't shut off. I had to go to Lowe's to get a new switch. Lowe's was set up nicely for social distancing, but there was a young arrogant dude who got too close to me--I hate that.

Lots and lots of art again today. Seb has now said that he's back to being interested in gorillas--and that now he likes gorillas more than baseball. LOL
Seb convinced Adrian to draw gorillas, too.
And back to drawing flags again...
Movie night--Sebastian wanted to watch Rampage, about a gorilla with The Rock. It's probably not appropriate--that was Papa's decision. I didn't watch the movie. But both boys loved the movie.
They slept together in Seb's top bunk again last night...they both say they feel safe with their backs to each other. I told them it's a weekend-only thing because I don't want them to lose their ability to sleep alone! ;-) But the boys have become so much closer these past three weeks. I thought it might drive them apart and make them fight even more, but it's had the opposite effect. They still fight--don't get me wrong--and it's usually when I'm in the middle of a call. But yesterday Seb said, "I'm just enjoying playing with Adi so much!" I don't hear that very often.

This is amazing! I loved looking at all you've been doing! I think this is a great way to record everything, but please be kind to yourself and don't go crazy trying to document everything you do in a day. That being said, I agree with you that this will be something fun to look back on!
ReplyDeleteNo worries. I have been wanting to document it all anyway. I feel worse for you having to potentially comb through it all! ;-)
